Directions:

On entering St Paul’s Church grounds continue up the hill, keeping right until you find the main car park. From there, continue walking round the back of the church and enter the Preschool grounds via the black gate. Walk through our meadow until you reach the courtyard going through another gate to reach the entrance to Pre-school.

    St Paul’s Pre‑school Winchester is a community-based charity preschool offering a nurturing, homely environment where children can play, explore and learn. The preschool supports children aged 2½ years to school age and follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum to ensure a strong transition to local primary schools.

    Based in St Paul’s Church Hall in central Winchester, the preschool operates term-time sessions between 9am–3pm, providing both morning and full-day sessions and offering funded early education places. The setting operates on a packaway basis.

    Our experienced team creates a stimulating indoor and outdoor environment where children develop confidence, social skills and independence through carefully planned play-based learning and supportive key-worker relationships.

    We are seeking an inspiring Preschool Manager to lead our dedicated team and continue delivering high-quality early years education for our community.

    The Role

    ‍ ‍

    The Preschool Manager will provide strong leadership and operational management of the setting, ensuring the highest standards of care, education and safeguarding for all children.

    ‍ ‍

    The role includes leading the team, delivering high-quality EYFS provision, maintaining compliance with Ofsted and statutory requirements, and building strong relationships with families and the local community.

    Key Responsibilities

    ‍ ‍

    Leadership and Management

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Lead, motivate and support the preschool team to deliver excellent early years provision.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Promote a positive, collaborative and inclusive team culture.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Manage staff recruitment, induction, supervision and professional development.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Work closely with the preschool committee/trustees to support governance and strategic planning.

    ‍ ‍

    Quality of Education

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Ensure delivery of a high-quality EYFS curriculum through engaging play-based learning.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Monitor planning, observations and assessments across the setting.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Maintain high standards of teaching, learning and child development outcomes.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Support key-worker practice and child progress tracking.

    ‍ ‍

    Safeguarding and Compliance

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the setting.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Ensure safeguarding procedures are robust and fully implemented.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Maintain compliance with Ofsted, EYFS and local authority requirements.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Oversee health and safety procedures and risk assessments.

    ‍ ‍

    Operational Management

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Manage daily operations including staffing ratios, rotas and session planning.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Work with the administrator to oversee funding claims, admissions and registers.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Manage budgets and resources in collaboration with the committee.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Ensure the setting is welcoming, safe and well organised.

    ‍ ‍

    Partnership with Parents and Community

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Build strong relationships with parents and carers.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Communicate effectively about children’s development and learning.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Maintain links with local schools and community organisations to support transitions.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Promote the preschool within the local community.

    ‍ ‍

    ‍ ‍

    Person Specification

    ‍ ‍

    Essential

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Level 3 Early Years qualification (or above).

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Experience working in an early years setting.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Experience leading or supervising staff.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Excellent communication and organisational skills.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare.

    ‍ ‍

    Desirable

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) or equivalent qualification.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Previous experience as a Deputy Manager, Room Leader or Preschool Manager.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       SENCO or safeguarding training.

    ‍ ‍

    ●       Experience working in a committee-run or charity setting.

    ‍ ‍
